For those who think having a daily skincare regimen is only for the high-maintenance, we challenge you to just try it- for just 3 weeks. (It’s proven that it takes 21 days to form a habit!) What have you got to lose aside from rejuvenated and radiant skin?

It is understandable to be overwhelmed by the endless choices of products out there for our skin. Fortunately, after years of research and testing an assortment of products, These are the 5 bare basic steps that you’ll need to maintain and care for beautiful skin. And once you’ve become accustomed to performing the 5 basic steps, we recommend graduating to the 10 step K-beauty regimen for an even more radiant skin!

Step 1

Remove makeup: remove foundation off your face with an oil based makeup remover. This is one of the secrets to healthy, glowing skin. Why is this step so important? It’s important because every night you sleep with your makeup on, the free radicals that have accumulated on your skin during the day will eventually break down your collagen over time. This can lead to premature aging and the development of fine lines.  No matter how late or tired you may be, your skin will thank you later for religiously following this first step.

Step 2

Cleanse: Wash your face with a foam or gel face cleanser in a light circular motion.Gel Cleansers tend to be more gentle on your skin than foam cleansers in general. Cleaning your face with a light circular motion will help with the circulation. We recommend CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser for those who prefer mild cleansers. Alba's Botanical cleanser is also great ! Milk cleansers are also recommended for those who prefer a gentle wash. 

Tip: At the end, splash 5 to 10 times with cold water to close up your pores.

Step 3

Toner: Grab a cotton pad and dab on toner. Apply it all of your your face gently. Washing your face will set off the ph balance of your skin. Using a toner helps reset this.

Step 4

Serum: Think of serum as vitamins for your skin. It’s usually water-based, although there are oil-based serums out there as well. Serums are suitable for all skin types and it can help improve issues such as pigmentation, wrinkles and pores.

Step 5: Moisturizer

Moisturizer: Seal in step 1 through 4 with a moisturizer that suits your skin type. Tap gently onto your face instead of rubbing it in- as rubbing creates unnecessary friction. Remember, your face is like a delicate flower!

It may seem daunting at first to incorporate all 5 steps if you are not used to it. Good news is that this routine takes 15 minutes daily ! Imagine the long term benefits you'll get from just by adopting this daily. Before you know it, you will start seeing a difference in your skin. :)

    The Thayers Witch Hazel Toner is what we recommend for quality and price. If you are looking for something that’s a little bit high end, we recommend the Shisheido brand. One rule of thumb when searching for a toner is to make sure that it’s alcohol-free. Toners that are alcohol-free will not dry out your skin.

    This was incredibly helpful. I’m turning 30 and have never spent much time taking care of my skin! Now I’m seeing the wrinkles and sunspots and looking to do a better job. Thanks for making the routine so clear and concise!
